You might remember an unusual item showed up in news around year 2000 - it was saying that U.S. Marines began using customized version of first-person shooter computer game Doom for teaching and practicing team cooperation in fighting. This proved to be much effective and cost saving than using a test grounds. Besides, Marines showed real interest in learning team cooperation skills in the virtual already reality familiar to many of them. That`s a real-life edutainment application.

Even before this we`ve heard how simple computer games "Minesweeper" and "Hearts" helped Microsoft with computer education of the office personnel everywhere. Those games created motivation to use PC for fun - at the same time office workers were quickly gaining control of the new at that time Windows interface. This saved a lot of money to the companies that had not deleted those edutainment games in one sweep with screensavers, sounds, and so on.
